Break Every Chain

Alone in a dark, dusty corner, my body is shaking with fear
Heavy chains on my legs and my arms, keeping me there
The bars of the prison, thick and old
It's been so long, here I sit in the stiff cold

I glance out the window at the birds so free
My maker cares for each one, does he also care for me?
The trees point to Heaven, trusting their Lord,
but I can't do it, held back by this long cord.

A cord of fear that never gets smaller,
my fears only continue to grow much taller
The dust in the room has come to settle,
the enemy does all he can to meddle.

My heart listens to his words of lies
his heart rejoices at my aches and cries
But the Lord calls out, come to me my precious child
your heart is weary, heavy-laden, and wild
I will give it rest and peace,
your fears and hurts, they all will cease

Let me break your chains of doubt and fear
you, my child, I hold very dear
I have watched your fear well up inside,
I have seen the things for which you have cried.

I will clean the settled dust of your heart,
I have cared for you from the very start.
The old, thick bars I will make disappear,
Held there only by your needless fear.

I long to give you a new life,
one that isn't full of strife.
Can you trust my promises to you?
Do you believe that what I say I do?
I look at the Lord with tear-stained eyes
How can you love me without chastise?
I have sat here so long, alone and in chains,
The dust and the darkness I'm sure have left stains.

My life behind bars is certain and sure
but uncertainty comes when I open that door.
I want to trust you, my heart longs to be free.
But still it holds back from what it cannot see.

Release my fears, give me your rest.
Break the chains in which I detest.
Open the bars so thick and old,
make new stories to be told.

The dust is no longer allowed to linger,
Satan cannot lay one finger.
You reign victorious in my heart,
I should have known that from the start.
